Mars is the center of civilization in the Sol System.  Founded as a colony from Earth in antiquity, it slowly gained population and importance over the centuries.  First claiming itself an independent government during the Great Hegira, this period also saw the greatest influx of population and literally the foundation of many root Martian cultural values and ideologies.
