The Encyclopædia Planetæ -- The Periphery

THE ARCWAYS WERE MAN'S gateway to the Local Neighborhood, but even after he had traveled to those many worlds which were provided by them, his urge to explore and colonize the sky continued unabated. This still required the slow movement into space by conventional means, and the resources of the League meant that these movements could be further and further from the Homeworld.

The Periphery became known as a region that was fairly well understood, but which knew little the touch of Humanity. The League of Worlds sent Man into this distant region, and with him went the ArcWay Construction Modules, ancient devices used by the ArcBuilders to create new gateways. It would take time, but the Periphery eventually became the suburbs of the Local Neighborhood.

Eventually the dual species founded their own polity, the Igegorum Heos, which promptly declared their entire solar system off limits to all other polities. Despite numerous attempts, to contact was made with this polity for hundreds of years. In the end, it became something of a "lost empire", until a modern League-sponsored expedition entered into the system, complete with a diplomatic envoy. What they discovered was an empty system, devoid of civilization, or even primitive survivors. The disappearance of the Heos remains one of the most perplexing mysteries. Page pending

The ArcWay, the Human means of colonization, was located in the middle of a northern mountain range, in a wide and lush valley. However, the winters were harsh and not crop-friendly.
