THOSE
WORLDS WHICH ORBIT the star Sol are Humanity's core. They
are the worlds which he grew up with, which he watched wander
across the sky from his African infancy, to which he assigned
supernatural attributes, which he yearned for as he learned to
secrets of interplanetary travel. They saw the rise of
Humanity, and they provided him the raw resources with which to
gain an interplanetary foothold and, later, the strength to take
the great leaps required to reach other stars.
Of
these worlds, of course, Earth is the true mother. But her
siblings have been the stepping stones which Humanity used in
his ascension to interstellar civilization. The Moon,
often simply called Luna, was the first such stop, and a
possibly necessary means by which our feet were first made wet
in the cosmic ocean. Without Luna, movement to Mars and
beyond might have been too great of a first step.
Certainly we would have eventually made it to the worlds of Sol,
but perhaps not so timely. Mars was another fortunate
placement for us. Without this world, remarkably
Earth-like in many ways, even before terraforming, it gave us an
eagerly awaited destination for both our imagination and our
need for resources. Once we had mastered movement to these
worlds, the rest of the Solar System was only a matter of time.
Unlike
the rest of the Encyclopędia Planetę, this section will deal
with each world of the Sol System as a separate
sub-catalogue. Despite our prowess at interstellar travel,
and the degree of colonization and exploration that has been
performed, we still know Sol and his children the best.
