The Encyclopædia Planetæ -- The Core Systems

EVEN BACK WHEN MANKIND was eagerly anticipating colonizing the stars, as he turned his telescopes outward and continued to take stock of the worlds which surrounded him in the Local Neighborhood, he knew full well that his most immediate area held little promise for him. By and large, those star systems located within 25 light years are red dwarfs, tiny suns that are by and large far too inimical to the formation of worlds friendly to unprotected Humans.

Because of this, a great astronomical injustice was done, and few in depth world observations were performed on these systems. As such, many were overlooked for centuries, and even in the era of the League of Worlds new discoveries are constantly being made in regards to the Core Systems. Indeed, as a modern push has long been underway to populate these close-in worlds, knowledge of what lies within Earth's very backyard has become even more crucial.
